Lead Designer

The lead designer works closely with the Creative Director to shape high level concepts and ideas into fun and deep game mechanics and level design features. Expertise in creating games that are highly accessible but deep enough for long-term engagement is key. Planning and supervising designers within the team toward timely completion of tasks is also critical. Finally, the lead designer must understand the core needs and motivations of the players to ensure development is focused on what is important.


  • Deliver on the game vision as set by the Creative Director and Product Owners.
  • Drive the core second-to-second gameplay with great player controls and systems.
  • Work closely with System designers to create engaging and gameplay systems with fun features that will improve player experience, engagement, and monetization.
  • Transform high-level ideas into detailed implementation plans.
  • Create GDDs, level layouts, and clear feature documentation for new games and content.
  • Work with development team to ensure content and features to high quality.


  • 5+ years as a designer or systems designer.
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine, especially the Blueprint system or have ability to build functional gameplay systems in scripting languages (C/C++, Lua, etc).
  • Understanding of game balance, including statistics, virtual goods, economics, and player motivations.
  • Ability to analyze player and game data and create improvement plans accordingly.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills with a solid grounding in math and probability.
  • Good balance, tuning, and polishing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of player mentality and motivations.

Base Salary:

    $104,000 - $190,000


  • Understanding of other disciplines (VFX, animation, audio, level design, gameplay engineering).
  • Experience with FPS or RTS design.
